The Community Foundation for Crawford County is proud to introduce the 2015 Scholarship winners for the following scholarships:

The Kevin A. Binau Scholarship

Blake_Miller

Blake Miller, Crestline High School

Parents: Nathan and Melissa Miller
College Attending: The Ohio State University – Mansfield Campus
Anticipated Major: Biomedical Engineering
High School Highlights: Blake enjoyed many activities in high school, taking advanced courses, participating in Student Council, Key Club, tennis and National Honor Society. His most fulfilling experiences were with the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). through his involvement in FCCLA, Blake was able to plan 5Ks for the local Humane Society, plan the move of his school to a new building, and even hold a national office with FCCLA.

The John W. Brubaker, Jr. Scholarship

Cole_Murtiff

Cole E. Murtiff, Bucyrus High School

Parents: Bradley and Lynn Murtiff
College Attending: Undecided
Anticipated Major: Electrical / Computer Engineering
High School Highlights: Cole has been very involved in his high school with sports, Science club, Student Council and volunteering. He is a member of National Honor Society, Kids Against Hunger Backpack Program, and the Reading with the Redmen K-6 Football and Basketball camps. Cole excelled as a Varsity player on the Football and Basketball teams.

The Susan Campbell Memorial Scholarship

Megan_Lyons

Megan C. Lyons, Colonel Crawford High School

Parents: Mike and Mary Lyons
College Attending: University of Findlay
Anticipated Major: Pre-Vet / Animal Sciences
High School Highlights: Throughout her high school career Megan has been active in several sports – varsity volleyball, swimming, and track. She was part of two organizations, one called Church Council Youth Ministries and the other called LINC; they are both community outreach programs. Megan is also very involved in 4-H and has performed many hours of community service through Leo Club and National Honor Society. She is currently taking post-secondary classes at OSU – Mansfield and working part-time at Pizza Hut. The favorite part of her high school career has been job shadowing with local veterinarians.

Jordan A. Studer, Colonel Crawford High School

Parents: Andrew and Melanie Studer
College Attending: The Ohio State University – Columbus
Anticipated Major: Integrated Language Arts / English Education
High School Highlights: Jordan has been involved in Cheerleading, Cross Country and Track and Field. She is a member of Leo Club, National Honor Society, and President of FCCLA. Jordan is a member of Gospel Baptist Church and participates in the Revolution Student Ministries Youth Group.

Cole_Murtiff

Cole E. Murtiff, Bucyrus High School

Parents: Bradley and Lynn Murtiff
College Attending: Undecided
Anticipated Major: Electrical / Computer Engineering
High School Highlights: Cole has been very involved in his high school with sports, Science club, Student Council and volunteering. He is a member of National Honor Society, Kids Against Hunger Backpack Program, and the Reading with the Redmen K-6 Football and Basketball camps. Cole excelled in both Varsity Basketball and Varsity Football. Along with Crawford County Offensive player of the year honors, Cole also earned Northern 10 Offensive Player of the Year, North Central Ohio Football Coaches Association offensive player of the year and was selected first team All-Northwest District.

Austin W. Patrick, Crestline High School

Parents: John Patrick and Ranay Setser
College Attending: University of Akron
Anticipated Major: Exercise Science
High School Highlights: Austin plays saxophone in the marching band. He also participates in Destination Imagination, a science and team-based competition; he advanced to compete at the global level in this program! Austin is also very active in Track and Field as a thrower. As a member of the National Honor Society and President of student council, Austin volunteers at many school activities.

Ellie Richmond, Wynford High School

College Attending: The Ohio State University – Columbus
Anticipated Major: Interior Design
High School Highlights: Ellie is a 4-year scholar-athlete, participating in Basketball, Cross Country and Track. She was named an OHSAA Scholar Athlete. Ellie is also a member of National Honor Society and volunteers in many school activities as a result.

 Cassie Lynn Sager

Cassie L. Sager, Colonel Crawford High School

Parents: Heath and Rita Sager
College Attending: Kent State University
Anticipated Major: Undecided
High School Highlights: Cassie is the only female three-sport athlete in her class, earning varsity letters in Volleyball, Basketball and Softball. She received the United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award as a junior. Cassie has been a class officer, serving as Secretary her senior year,  and on student council as well as the yearbook staff throughout her high school years. She has been a member of FCCLA, Leo Club and the Lions Club, volunteering to work at their associated benefits. Cassie is also a member of National Honor Society. Her career highlights include starting on the 2013 Division IV State Runner-Up softball team as a sophomore, and breaking the school record for most 3 pointers in a single season in her junior year on the basketball team.

The Holmes-Liberty Alumni Scholarship

Hunter_Miller

Hunter R. Miller, Wynford High School

Parents: Craig and Julie Miller
College Attending: Undecided
Anticipated Major: Radiation Therapy
High School Highlights: Hunter has always excelled at sports, earning Varsity letters in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. He also enjoys golf, hunting, fishing, and participating in his church youth group. Hunter was an OHSAA leadership conference representative and was elected Captain for several of the teams he’s been involved with. Hunter is looking forward to his college education and knows he has what it takes to be successful.

The Huggins Family Agricultural Scholarship

Wesley_Wingert

Wesley D. Wingert, Colonel Crawford High School

Parents: Timothy and Kelly Wingert
College Attending: OSU-ATI
Anticipated Major: Power Equipment / Agricultural Systems Management
High School Highlights: Wesley is a 2nd year recipient for the Huggins Scholarship. He was heavily involved in 4-H and FFA in high school. He also enjoyed helping the marching band with various tasks, as well as being a member of FCCLA. Throughout his first year of college, Wesley has been Vice President of the ATI power club and was also involved in various housing community activities.

Taryn_Ramsey

Taryn Ramsey, Bucyrus Secondary School

Parents: Steve and Renee Ramsey
College Attending: Wilmington College
Anticipated Major: Agriculture / Animal Science
High School Highlights: Throughout high school, Taryn participated as much as possible. She played sports such as volleyball, track, and swimming. She also participated in clubs such as National Honor Society, Girls Boosters, Student council, art club and FCCLA. Her favorite activities included band, choir and the school musical. Outside of school she volunteered at the Crawford County Humane Society and worked at Bucyrus Wendy's.

The Jeanne A. Miller Scholarship

Brooke Lindsay Miller

Brooke L. Miller, Wynford High School

Anticipated Major: Business Marketing
High School Highlights: "In the last four years I have participated in many activiites including volleyball, bowling, Interact Club and 4-H. I am the President of National Honor Society and Student Council and the Crawford County Junior Fair Board. I have played varsity softball for four years, coached a 12 and Under softball team for two years, and will continue to coach by being an assistant to the 15 and Under softball team this summer. I have enjoyed being a part of volunteering by being a first grade tutor for five years, too."

Haley McCarthy, Miami University

Anticipated Major: Speech Language Pathology and Audiology

College Highlights to date: Haley traveled to Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thailand for the Spring                 semester. There she studied Globalization, Culture, and Aging in Thailand and was able to make comparisons between the aging populations of Thailand and the United States.

Anticipated Major: Math Education

College Highlights to date: Kristin spent the Spring semester in Haiti studying the differences and similarities between their culture and the United States. She hopes to gain insight that will be valuable to her as she enters her teaching career as a math instructor.

High School Highlights: "I have been involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, FCCLA and Leo Club. Other school activities include concert band, pep band, track and bowling. I am also the 2014-15 2nd runner-up on the Bratwurst Festival Queens Court. I am a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church and an employee of The Crawford County Board of Developmental Disabilities."

Rachel_Ehresman

Rachel Ehresman, Wynford High School

College Attending: Bowling Green State University
Anticipated Major: Music Education
High School Highlights: "Throughout my four years of high school I have participated in volleyball, basketball, Choir, Royal Singers and the drama department. In the drama department, I have held many positions such as stage manager, principle characters, lead characters, and prop design. I have spent many hours an an Interact volunteer within the community, as well as serving as an office aide in the high school office and athletic department. I also serve at my church as an usher and nursery worker.”
