Addison, the daughter of Aaron and Nancy Ackerman, is a 2018 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. She plans to attend the University of Findlay this fall and is studying occupational therapy.

Seeing an occupational therapist in action with a family member inspired Addison to choose her major. “I always knew I wanted to do something in the medical field, and I originally focused on physical therapy, but I wanted to see my other options,” she explained. “My grandpa has Parkinson’s disease, and he had a surgery on his hand to try to lessen the symptoms of this disease. After his surgery, he went to a lot of occupational therapy appointments. I decided to go to one of his appointments with him to see what it was like, and I really enjoyed seeing what the occupational therapist did. Being able to see how much occupational therapy helped my grandpa’s life improve, made me want to be able to do that for others. I love working with people, and I can’t wait to help people live to their fullest potentials because of occupational therapy.” After graduation, Addison would like to come back to this area. “I am hoping to find a job in the area as an occupational therapist,” she stated. “I would love to work with geriatric patients either in a local nursing home or hospital.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Addison!
