Haley, the daughter of Brian and Pam Kalb, is a 2018 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. She plans to attend the University of Findlay this fall and study art education.

With a steady passion for art, Haley was inspired to choose her major even when adversity arose. “My plan was always to become an art therapist,” explained Haley. “However, when senior year came along and I had to get serious about my career path, my research showed it to be a risky and unpromising option. Ruling that [career] out due to fear, I opted for occupational therapy instead. Yet when I shadowed an OT in a local elementary school, I did not feel passionate about it. [Fortunately]…during the day, we spent part of the time in the art room, and I felt so drawn in and …didn’t want to leave. I knew I was not ready to give up art and loved that I could still be helping kids through art if I became an art teacher.” Even after graduation, Haley plans to teach and work towards her original plan of becoming an art therapist. “I hope to teach in a school in a big city with plans of also becoming a licensed art therapist. This will allow me to teach art while equipping me to work with children with disabilities or mental illnesses and giving them the channel of art.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Haley!
