Ann, the daughter of the late Stanley Whitmore and Ruth Loyd, is a 1982 graduate of Galion High School. She is attending the Crawford Success Center, a satellite of the North Central State College located in Bucyrus, and is studying human resources. In her spare time, Ann loves to sing, spend time with her family and friends, and is currently seeking to obtain her ministerial license. She has two children and five grandchildren.

Ann’s children were a big inspiration for her choice of human services. “To see both my children work hard, overcome obstacles, and become successful in all their endeavors inspired me. My son has two associate degrees from North Central State College, electrical engineering and environmental engineering, and he is currently in the air force and stationed in Mansfield,” she stated. “And my daughter has an associate degree in business from Phoenix University and is currently employed at the YMCA in Bucyrus.”

After being hurt in a car accident in 2017, Ann was forced to change careers. “I currently have an LPN degree,” she stated. Unfortunately as a result of the car accident, Ann is unable to lift anymore. “I hope to use the new tools [I gain]…to help others.” After graduating, Ann plans to continue her education “to become a licensed social worker with a specialty in counseling and educational services.”

When asked to describe what she is enjoying most at college right now, Ann said, “I love listening to the teachers give us a glimpse of their many experiences.”

Ann’s advice to any non-traditional students contemplating taking college classes: “You are never too old to learn a new career.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Ann!
