2020 Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Molly Geissman

Posted by Amy Vaughn on Tue, Jul 21, 2020

The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Molly Geissman, a 2020 recipient of one of the six Robert Schwaderer Scholarship awards.

Geissman, MollyMolly, the daughter of Bradley and Michelle Geissman, is a 2019 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. She will be entering her second year of a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering at The Ohio State University this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“I enjoy the feeling of being independent and doing things on my own. The professors/staff treat everyone like adults. It allows me to learn how to be completely responsible for myself and prepares me for my future.”

Would you say most of your learning comes from inside or outside of the classroom?

“I feel that I learn a lot both inside and outside the classroom. Inside the classroom, I learn the class material and can get the basic knowledge for the course. Outside of the classroom, I get to do my own research and expand my knowledge based on what we already learned.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“After taking physics, I became interested in multiple topics we covered, including entropy and heat death of the universe. I also was very interested in all of the topics we discussed in my calculus classes. It was interesting to see how math will be incorporated into my future career.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“Once I was in college, I began to gain more confidence in myself than I ever had in high school. It also taught me how to be more responsible for myself. One last thing, it has shown me is that it is more important to have a few close friends rather than a large group.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“Be prepared to work hard and study for the entire semester in order to be as ready as possible for midterms/finals. But don’t forget to have some fun, too!”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Molly!
