2020 Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Taylor Niese

Posted by Amy Vaughn on Mon, Aug 03, 2020

The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Taylor Niese, a 2020 recipient of one of the nine Glen and Alice Beers Scholarship awards.

Niese, TaylorTaylor, the daughter of Daniel Niese and Sheila Sobers, is a 2018 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. She will be entering her third year of a doctoral degree in pharmacy with a dual major in Spanish at Ohio Northern University this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“College is a good mix of an academic challenge and getting to meet people from all kinds of backgrounds. I enjoy getting to learn about something that I am passionate about but also having the opportunity to do it with new people.”

Would you say most of your learning comes from inside or outside of the classroom?

“Most of my learning comes from outside of the classroom. For example, I intern at Rite Aid, and this experience has allowed me to use the information I learned in class, but it exposes me to more than what I could ever learn in the classroom.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“In college I discovered that I really enjoy learning the Spanish language and culture. I decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Spanish, while also getting my Doctorate in Pharmacy. I do not want anyone to feel like they cannot receive medical treatment because of a language barrier.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“College has challenged me to become more outgoing and independent. I feel more motivated and passionate about my future.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“Get involved on campus because it will give you the opportunity to meet so many new people. Also, do not spend all your time studying. Set aside time to watch Netflix or go out to eat.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Taylor!
