5 Things We’re Thankful For This Holiday Season

bacf thanksAs 2010 draws to a close, many people start to reflect on company performance, Top 10 lists, Best and Worst lists and a myriad of other topics.  The Bucyrus Area Community Foundation, since its beginning in 1984, has been very fortunate to continually provide support for Bucyrus and Crawford County charities.  We’re taking this opportunity to share with you our Top 5 list of things we’re thankful for this holiday season.

Donors

This is an absolute no-brainer.  Over the course of 26 years, we have been extremely fortunate to receive major contributions from community members who sought to have a lasting impact on their favorite local charity or the Bucyrus community in general.  Since 1984, we have been able to build our assets to over $10 million thanks to the support of our donors.  Without your support, we would not be able to fulfill our mission; “Provide financial assistance for charitable, educational and scientific purposes which will most significantly meet the charitable, educational, cultural and recreational needs of the Crawford County community.”  Thank you, donors, for your support of the BACF and local charities in Bucyrus and Crawford County.

Support from Local Charities

This may seem a bit confusing, and for good reason.  One of the things we do really well is provide support to local organizations that provide programs and services to the Bucyrus and Crawford County community.  However, these same local charities have entrusted the oversight and management of their endowment funds with the BACF.  The local charities in Bucyrus and Crawford County are here to provide help and support for our community.  If they weren’t here, the BACF wouldn’t exist to help them help our community.  Thank you, local charities, for your trust and partnership.

Support from Community

In order for the BACF to be successful, we rely not only on financial support from our community, but also the support of time and talents of individuals.  Many of you who have not provided financial support have provided support in other ways.  Volunteering time with different local charities, providing talents to help with projects supported by the BACF, and helping to raise awareness in our community for the BACF and our mission are examples of ways community members have provided support and we thank you.

Board of Directors

We are truly fortunate to have an amazing nonprofit board of directors.  These individuals give selflessly of their time and talents to help ensure the continued existence and operation of the BACF.  However, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the founding members of the BACF board of directors.  Some have left us and others are still here making an impact on our community.  Original members of BACF Board of Directors included: Robert L. Bordner, Edward Dager, Richard Ekleberry, Robert Gulling, Richard Kime, Arlo Lutz, Libby McPeek, Robert Morton, James B. Pigman, Ken Sharrock, John Spreng and R.A. (Bud) Williams.  Thank for your vision, courage and leadership to help chart a course of success for the BACF.

The Timken Foundation

Over 25 years ago, the Timken Foundation was the driving financial force behind the creation of the BACF.  The Timken Foundation shared the vision of the original board of directors and helped launch an organization that now supports the quality of life, safety, educational and other needs of Bucyrus and the Crawford County community.  With the support of the community, the BACF was able to realize a gift of $125,000 from the Timken Foundation to start the community foundation.  Thank you, Timken Foundation, for sharing our vision and supporting the Bucyrus and Crawford County community.

On behalf of the board of directors, staff and local charities, I would like to wish each of you warmest wishes for a blessed holiday and prosperous 2011.  Thank You!
