BACF Trustee Spotlight - Dave Auck

Posted by Janet Pry on Fri, Nov 18, 2011

To celebrate Community Foundation Week 2011, we are spotlighting individuals who serve on our Board of Trustees. We would like to thank these community members for their dedication to help us provide direction for the future of Bucyrus and Crawford County.

Dave was born and raised in Bucyrus and graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1961. He received his accounting degree from Miami University in 1965. Following his service in the Army, Dave worked for the IBM Corporation in Macon, Ga. and returned to Bucyrus in 1972. The next year, he purchased his father's independent insurance agency and helped manage The Auck Agency, and subsequently The Auck Dostal Agency, for the next 35 years. Auck retired from the day-to-day operations of the agency in 2007.

The #1 thing Dave most enjoys about Bucyrus and Crawford County is the inability to be anonymous, and the ease with which individuals can get involved to make positive impacts on the community.

"It is hard to be anonymous in a small town like Bucyrus but this is one of the great advantages - the ability to meet and get to know many people from all walks of life. I also believe that a dollar goes about as far here as anywhere else - good real estate values (just watch HGTV), inexpensive recreational facilities (e.g. YMCA, golf & tennis), some local cultural offerings (library, community concert) and access to many more within a modest drive. Perhaps the #1 thing is the ease of getting involved in an attempt to make a positive impact on the community and county."

In Auck's view, community members should support the foundation because the foundation supports organizations that help the community.

"The community includes many, many not-for-profit organizations where the work of these organizations is being performed by volunteers who are, indeed, trying to make a positive difference in our community. This work frequently requires funding and this is where the Foundation can and does assist the work of these organizations."
