McAleer, ChalenaThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Chalena McAleer, a 2020 recipient of one of the three spring semester Pry Scholarship awards.

Chalena, the daughter of Billie Jo McAleer, is a 2010 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She is attending North Central State College and studying nursing.

What inspired you to choose your intended major?

“I chose my major because I wanted to do something in my career that is challenging, interesting, and makes a difference in people’s lives daily. In the nursing profession, you deal with many aspects of patient care, and I enjoy the variety in the routine. ”

What are your career goals after you graduate?

“My career goal after I graduate is to work as an LPN at a drug addiction facility. My plan is to work a year for experience, then further my education to become an RN. Eventually I would love to work with surgeons.”

What are you enjoying most at college?

“One thing I’m enjoying at college is the opportunity to learn and grow in life. I keep telling myself just to think about the end prize.”

What advice would you give a non-traditional student who is contemplating taking college courses?

“Learning time-management and studying is very important. Those two things are key to being successful in college.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Chalena!
