The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Austin Silverwood, a 2021 recipient of one of the nineteen Doug and Renee Leuthold Scholarship awards.
Austin, the son of Mark Silverwood and Casey Songer, is a 2021 graduate of Crestline High School. He will be attending the Fire Academy in Reynoldsburg, Ohio this fall and studying to become a firefighter and an EMT.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
“As a little boy I have always wanted to be a firefighter. Knowing that you’re saving someone’s life or their belongings just seems like a great career to have. It’s like being a real life hero and getting paid to do it.”
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
“I intend to go right into a fire department and start my career. I haven't decided where I want to go yet, but I have a little time for that. Right now, I am just focused on learning everything I can about being safe and saving people.”
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Austin!
