Aichholz, MakaylaThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Makayla Aichholz, a 2021 recipient of one of the nine Glen and Alice Beers Scholarship awards.

Makayla, the daughter of Steven and Ellen Aichholz, is a 2018 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. She will be entering her fourth year of a bachelor’s degree in accounting at Bowling Green State University this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“I love the flexibility that college offers. You have the ability to design your own schedule and make it however you want. I personally enjoy getting my classes over with as early in the day as possible so I design my schedule that way. There is also more free time that allows you to work on homework or other activities.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“I like general education courses the most because you can learn about a variety of topics that aren't in your major. One class in particular that I took was Life in the Sea. In this class I was able to learn about the ocean and marine life which is very different from the typical business classes I take.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“My college experience has taught me how to be more responsible. I have learned how to manage my time better so that I can get all of my homework done and attend the events I need to. I have also become more financially responsible as I now have bills and rent to pay.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“I would tell an incoming freshman to take time for yourself. It can be very challenging to leave home for the first time and adjust to college classes. During the day it is okay to take a break from your work and just relax.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Makayla!
