The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Kaitlyn Best, a 2024 recipient of the Jan and Al Fulton Scholarship award.
Kaitlyn, the daughter of Richard Best and Angela Best, is a 2023 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. She is in her second year of an Associate's Degree in Psychology at Bowling Green State University.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"My favorite aspect of college life is the opportunity to meet new, great people. At BGSU, I have made some of my best friends. Along with my friends, I've met supportive professors, advisors, and mentors that have helped shape me into who I am today."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"I have always loved writing. In high school, I took more than the required amount of writing credits including learning the skill of publication writing. In college, I took two writing courses. My favorite course was research writing. I loved being able to research and inform readers on topics that are important to me."
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
"College has given me a sense of independence. I have tried new things and met new people which has improved me to feel a true sense of belonging and has helped me find my true self. College has also taught me a large amount of responsibility that will assist me through my early adulthood."
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"Advice I would give to incoming freshmen is to not be scared and step out of your comfort zone. I was terrified to leave home and be on my own. I quickly grew to love the college life and met great people. I would advise incoming freshmen to try new things and cherish every moment in college as it flies by."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"One item on my bucket list is to meet Kevin Love. I have always admired Kevin Love's basketball skills, character, and sportsmanship. However, I mostly admire Kevin for using his platform to advocate for mental health. Kevin has started a foundation for, written about, and has talked about the stigma that surrounds mental health for athletes. Kevin Love has been an inspiration to so many athletes and has made them feel heard."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Kaitlyn!
