Kristen VaughnThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Kristen Vaughn, a 2024 recipient of the Bucyrus High School Class of 1971 Scholarship award, one of the nine Glen and Alice Beers Scholarship awards, and one of the 20 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.

Kristen, the daughter of Erik Vaughn and Elaine Whited, is a 2019 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She is in her first year of a Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine at the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?

"My favorite aspect of college life is learning. I know that might sound vague, but it is such a privilege to get a higher education and truly appreciate the material I am studying. I love learning about medicine and the human body, and I am beyond excited to start the next stage of my journey toward becoming a physician!

What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?

"I have recently gotten into rock climbing and am very happy to say that the school I am attending also has a rock wall! I have also really appreciated getting to take courses such as ceramics, basketball, and ballroom dancing. They were all such fun classes to take with friends and really increased my appreciation for basketball and my already-present love for ceramics and ballroom dancing!"

In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?

"The college experience has taught me to be more inquisitive and ask good questions. The world we live in is a fascinating masterpiece created by God, and there are endless questions we could ask about it. Along with that, I have also learned that asking questions or asking for help is a sign of strength, not a sign of weakness!"

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

"Advice I would give to an incoming college freshman is to not be too hard on yourself! You are fearfully and wonderfully made and created for a purpose. Remember that, and keep trying when things get hard!"

What is one item on your bucket list and why?

"One item on my bucket list is exploring the mountains and beaches and whatever else Virginia has to offer since I'll be living there for the next few years for school. I am excited to start a life in this new state! Adventure is out there!"

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Kristen!
