The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Emma Scott, a 2025 recipient of one of the nine Glen and Alice Beers Scholarship awards.
Emma, the daughter of Kimberly Ann Scott and Bradly Robert Scott, is a 2023 graduate of Colonel Crawford High School. She is in her third year of a Bachelor's Degree in Biology/Pre-Health at Miami University.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"My favorite aspect of college life is spending time with your friends. I enjoy being able to go to sports games such as volleyball, hockey, and basketball with my friends. Being able to do that allows you to really take your mind off of school and have fun with those around you."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"I have recently discovered that I am really interested in the subject of Gerontology after taking a class this past fall semester. It was called "Aging in American Society," and it really opened up your eyes to the struggles that older generations have in the United States."
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
"The college experience has made me a more independent person and encourages me to do more things on my own. It also has improved my time management skills by allowing me to learn how to balance my schoolwork and have fun in life."
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"I would say that you should try new things in college. Before going to college, I had never been to a hockey game before. I went to my first hockey game my freshman year of college and found out that I really enjoyed watching hockey. I would say the same goes for classes because I had no idea I had an interest in Gerontology before taking the class."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"One item on my bucket list is to travel across the United States. I would love to go to every state at least once in my life, and I have always wanted to visit all the National Parks in the United States."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Emma!
