The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Jade King, a 2025 recipient of one of the six Arlene H. Smith Scholarship awards.
Jade, the daughter of Jennifer King and Jeremy King, is a 2025 graduate of Wynford High School. She is attending Marion Technical College this fall and studying Nursing.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
"I was inspired by many things when choosing my major, but the most important thing, in my opinion, is when my younger sister had her kidney transplant. My sister was diagnosed with kidney disease at the very young age of two. She has had many challenges since then, such as dialysis treatment because her kidneys were slowly shutting down. When she was nine, she was able to get a kidney. Now, she is doing amazing and is in great health. This inspired me because after seeing how the nurses at the hospital took care of my sister, I knew that I wanted to do something similar for other people."
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
"I currently have my CNA license, so I plan to work as a CNA in a nursing home until I graduate from college. After college, I plan to get my RN license and either work in a hospital or a doctor's office to help take care of people in need. On the life side of things, I plan to get married, have at least two children, and use the money that I make as a nurse to provide for my family."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Jade!
