2025 Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Mara McDougal

Posted by Rachel Jarvis on Mon, Aug 18, 2025

Mara McDougalThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Mara McDougal, a 2025 recipient of one of the six Crawford County Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship awards.

Mara, the daughter of Missy McDougal and Scott McDougal, is a 2025 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. Mara is attending Wheeling University this fall and studying Biology.

What inspired you to choose your intended major?

"Sports, specifically volleyball, is one of my passions; however, I have not had the best luck in terms of injuries. To date, I have had four surgeries, giving me a lot of experience with healthcare professionals, good and bad. My experiences have inspired me to become a physician assistant specializing in orthopedics, so I can help young athletes get back to high level competition."

What are your career and life goals after you graduate?

"I will be attending Wheeling University to play volleyball as well as study their pre-physician assistant program. After graduating with my Bachelor's of Science in biology, I hope to move somewhere in the south to complete PA school and then settle down."

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Mara!
