The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Carly Kent, a 2026 recipient of one of the six Arlene H. Smith Scholarship awards.
Carly, the daughter of Amanda Kent and Eric Kent, is a 2026 graduate of Galion High School. She is attending Ashland University this fall and studying nursing.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
"Ever since I was a kid, I've always been drawn to helping those around me. This innate desire, combined with my interest in science and the human body has brought me to the firm belief that nursing is the perfect career path for me. Nursing is so much more than a job- it makes a difference in the vulnerable moments of an individual's life. There is a high demand for nurses, and I believe my services will be a great asset to the endless call for care. I have been particularly interested in the path of pediatrics. I love working with children and watching them overcome challenges. I believe helping kids cope with illness and injury is a field I would greatly enjoy. However, I am open to learning about the other settings and wouldn't be surprised if one grabs my attention."
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
"After I graduate from college, I hope to be working as a pediatric nurse in Ohio. I would love to get married and also start a family of my own. Due to my love for animals, I have also been very passionate about owning a hobby farm. With that being said, I am looking forward to furthering my education in hopes to achieve my future goals."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Carly!
