The Community Foundation for Crawford County is proud to introduce the 2016 Scholarship winners for the following scholarships:

The Kevin A. Binau Scholarship

Parents: David and Missi Grove
College Attending: Centre College
Anticipated Major: Biology
High School Highlights: Chloe was MVP Swimmer all four years of her high school and Team Captain of the Swim Team for two years. She also was on the track and field team for two years. Throughout high school Chloe was involved in many club activities, including FCCLA, Leo Club and National Honor Society.  In addition to her sports and academic activities, Chloe was a volunteer at Galion Community Hospital.

The John W. Brubaker, Jr. Scholarship

Parents: Chris and Amy Hawkins
College Attending: Kent State University
Anticipated Major: Nursing
High School Highlights: Ashton was a three-sport athlete all through high school. playing varsity softball, tennis, and basketball. She was elected Captain of her softball team her senior year, received the Sab Sabback Award for tennis in her Junior year and was named MVP her Senior year. She was selected as the Most Improved Player for both basketball and tennis her Junior year. Ashton was also involved in DECA and was a 1st place recipient in the district for DECA.

 The Susan Campbell Memorial Scholarship

Anticipated Major: Broadcasting and Journalism
High School Highlights: Brandon has been involved in Student Council, Project B.L.A.C.K., Leo Club, and FCCLA. He has also been a school mentor for 6 years and has participated in 4-H.  He is involved in various activities through Holy Trinity Church. Brandon has been a Cross Country team member as well as a Track and Field team member.  He plans to continue his running career at Bluffton.

The Crawford County Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship

College Attending: The College of Wooster
Anticipated Major: Political Science
High School Highlights: Claire has been very involved in the Marching band during her high school career. She was also involved  in swimming every year. She is a member of the Mt. Zion Buckeyes 4-H club. Currently, she is the news reporter and the historian; and she is also a 4-H camp counselor. At her church, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, she helps out with junior church, acolyte, and participates in the youth group. In school, She is a member of National Honor Society, Girls Boosters, Art club, and Yearbook club.

Anticipated Major: Dental Hygiene
High School Highlights: Jada was very active in volleyball, basketball, and softbal throughout high school. She received many awards and recognition within those sports.  She was also involved in Leo Club, a community service based group and was elected to student council all four years of high school.

Anticipated Major: Actuarial Science
High School Highlights: Callie is an Academic All Ohio in both Track and Swimming.  She is the State Champion for Pole Vault in 2016. She was also a state qualifier in swimming and Indoor Track (State Champion 2016) and was named All-Ohio for swimming in 2016.  She was also a member of the National Honor Society.

High School Highlights: Alex participated in baseball and basketball throughout high school. Alex was a representative for the 1st annual Crawford County Leadership Conference and a Student Academic Award winner.

The Holmes-Liberty Alumni Scholarship

College Attending: Bowling Green State University
Anticipated Major: Criminal Justice
High School Highlights: Eric participated in football all four years of high school and was named Captain his Senior year.  He was also named 2nd Team All-N10 for offense.  He enjoyed the scholastic challenges he faced and friendships he made during high school.  Eric is very excited to see what the future holds for him at Bowling Green.

The Huggins Family Agricultural Scholarship

College Attending: The Ohio State University
Anticipated Major: Agriculture/Agriscience Education
High School Highlights: Taylor was very active in FFA and FCCLA as a high school student.  She helped with many community service projects, including planting flowers at the fairgrounds, organizing a 5K walk/run, collecting canned goods as well as many other projects.

College Attending: University of Northwestern Ohio
Anticipated Major: Diesel and Agricultural equipment technology
High School Highlights: Kyle's passion is agriculture. He has been involved in 4-H since Kindergarten and is currently serving as president of his 4-H chapter. He was Vice President of the Colonel Crawford FFA. Kyle is employed at Longacre Farms and at the Ohio State Fair. Kyle is looking forward to his studies and the chance to expand his knowledge. He will embrace the opportunities that the furture holds for him.

The Jeanne A. Miller Scholarship

Anticipated Major: Geriatric Nursing
High School Highlights: "Throughout high school I have been in the band. I started playing the clarinet in fifth grade and I am currently playing it for concert band. My junior year I played saxophone for marching band and pep band and did the same senior year. In my high school career I have been involved in volleyball, track, and cross country. I earned a varsity letter in cross country my sophomore year.  I have been in garden club for all of high school, theater for my first three years of high school, and Spanish club  for my senior year. For my senior project I worked with resident in the Dementia Unit at Altercare of Bucyrus. I have dedicated several hours of my time to doing activities with the residents."

The Samuel Neff Fellowship for International Study

Anticipated Major: Community Leadership with a Specialization in Community and Extension Education

College Highlights to date: Haley traveled to Brazil for six weeks; her trip was made possible by Alpha Zeta Partners Organization, a group that sends students to Brazil each year to experience different cultures.

Anticipated Major: Integrated Mathematics

College Highlights to date: Amy traveled to Florence, Italy for a three-week experience as part of becoming a math educator.  There she visited several schools and research enviornments and developed a lesson plan having to do with her experiences there.

The Larry Schiefer Memorial Scholarship

Anticipated Major: Agriculture Education
High School Highlights: During her high school years, Aryn was involved in marching band, concert band, pep band, cross country and track. Aryn was a member of the All-Ohio State Fair Band for three years and was alsoa member of the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra. She was a Crawford County Camp Counselor and a member of the Crawford County Junior Fair Board throughout her high school career.

The Richard E. Stearns Scholarship

Anticipated Major: Dietetics
High School Highlights: "After graduating from Wynford High School in 2014, I attended Bowling Green State University and was in the Honors College to earn a degree in Medical Dietetics and a minor in General Business. I also kept busy by playing on the club softball team, volunteering with the Red Cross, and working at the campus bookstore. During spring semester, I was offered a position in the Medical Dietetics coordinated internship program at The Ohio State University in Columbus and transferred there after my freshman year of college. Since then, I have advanced in my academic program at Ohio State and have been offered a supervisor position through the OSU Department of Recreational Sports. In the summertime, I continue my passion of sports by coaching my 5th year of youth softball and look forward to continuing my own life journey."

The Daryl Stucky Memorial Scholarship

High School Highlights:  During her high school years, Loagan was involved in National Honor Society, slow-pitch softball, band and choir. Loagan was also very active in community service, especially at Fairhaven Community.

The Dustin T. Stover Scholarship

Anticipated Major: Diagnostic Medical Sonography
High School Highlights: "I participated in varsity swimming and track all four year.  I was also involved in FCCLA and Art Club.  This is my tenth year in 4-H, and I have served as the Young Riders Club Treasurer the past three years.  Last year I qualified and showed my horse at The Ohio State Fair."

Anticipated Major: Early Childhood Education
High School Highlights: "Throughout my four years of high school I have participated in volleyball, basketball, Choir, Royal Singers and the drama department. In the drama department, I have held many positions such as stage manager, principle characters, lead characters, and prop design. I have spent many hours an an Interact volunteer within the community, as well as serving as an office aide in the high school office and athletic department. I also serve at my church as an usher and nursery worker.”
