Posted by Amy Vaughn on Mon, Sep 07, 2020

Bennett, CarlaThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Carla Bennett, a 2020 recipient of one of the three spring semester Pry Scholarship awards.

Carla, the daughter of Carl and Bonnie Brady, is a 1991 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She is attending North Central State College and studying to become a registered nurse (RN).

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“My favorite aspect is the learning specifically in the classes that apply to the core of my degree (medical terminology, psychology1-3, nutrition)! I’m in the medical field now as a CMA (certified medical assistant) so this applies daily to seeing the “bigger picture” in patient care.”

In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?

“It has continued to expand my mind - I never get tired of learning! After completing a hard course where I doubted myself, I can look back, and now it gives me a sense of self-confidence and pride.”

What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“I was really surprised how much I liked nutrition especially how interesting and how well it ties into overall health. There are so many ways to help specific conditions such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease through managed nutrition.”

What advice would you give a non-traditional student who is contemplating taking college courses?

“It is never too late! Your age and experience is something of value that you bring to the table and is something that can help others to succeed as well as yourself.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Carla!
