2020 Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Cieara Pfeifer

Posted by Amy Vaughn on Sun, Jul 12, 2020

The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Cieara Pfeifer, a 2020 recipient of one of the seventeen Doug and Renee Leuthold Scholarship awards and one of the nine Glen and Alice Beers Scholarship awards.

Pfeifer, CiearaCieara, the daughter of Darren and Chrystal Pferifer, is a 2018 graduate of Colonel Crawford High School. She will be entering her third year of a bachelor’s degree in computer science at Kent State University this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“My favorite aspect of college is the independence. You truly are responsible for yourself and your decisions. It can be really freeing for things to work on your personal schedule.”

Would you say most of your learning comes from inside or outside of the classroom?

“Outside of the classroom – it is nice to learn directly from professors but the true test of your knowledge shows through in studying, homework, labs, and other required growing tools such as internships.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“I have always been a computer science major, but I recently added on to my degree a minor in forensic anthropology. It is super amazing to learn the science behind what happens after we’re gone and the clues of our life.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“The college experience has me a lot more future focused, and it has made me become my own person. You learn from different experiences and grow a lot. You really form your own ideas and opinions during this time.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“I would advise them to GO TO CLASS! It is so important. And realize that everyone’s path is different, and it’s okay if things don’t go as planned.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Cieara!
