2020 Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Gram Dick

Posted by Amy Vaughn on Mon, Jul 20, 2020

The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Gram Dick, a 2020 recipient of one of the eighteen Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.

Dick, GramGram, the son of Greg Dick and Pamela Barker, is a 2018 graduate of Bucyrus High School. He will be entering his third year of a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Ohio Wesleyan University this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“My favorite aspect of college life is the transition it forces you to go through. It makes you step out of your comfort zone and experience things you might not elsewhere.”

Would you say most of your learning comes from inside or outside of the classroom?

“I would say it’s a steady balance of both. Even though our professors are very helpful, they will not hold your hand through college. This makes one’s self more independent and able to critically think.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“Since being at college I have been able to broaden my horizons with classes, such as Black World Studies, Ecology, and Cinemas of the Middle East. These classes have helped me grasp a new perspective on the world and made me more culturally aware.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“College has changed me for the better in the sense of showing me more about the world. It has shown me the importance of all cultures and aspects of other individuals' lives.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“Just be calm. It may seem like chaos, but there is so much opportunity to be had.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Gram!
