The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Jared Miller, a 2020 recipient of one of the nine Glen and Alice Beers Scholarship awards.

Miller, Jared pictureJared, the son of Tim and Karen Miller, is a 2002 graduate of Colonel Crawford High School. He will be entering his fourth year of the doctorate program to become a Juris Doctor at Capital University Law School this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“Law school is both a challenging and rewarding journey. Law has always been an interest of mine, but the time needed to attend law school was limited. After beginning this journey, I quickly realized the interaction with like-minded students was well work the time commitment.”

Would you say most of your learning comes from inside or outside of the classroom?

“I have been fortunate to have a successful career that has immersed me in the legal profession. I have drawn on this experience throughout my education to help in my understanding of the materials.  However, the in the classroom learning has also played a critical role in the advancement of my understanding.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“I have always had an interest in real estate and finance. However, I was unsure how I would be able to incorporate these into a legal profession.  After attending my estates and trust course, I discovered these interests fit perfectly with an estate planning legal career.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“Law school can be one of the most challenging and stressful experiences of most lawyers’ lives. How you deal with this stress is one of the most critical parts of the law school experience.  Through this gauntlet of difficulty, I emerged a more rational person with the ability to keep life’s challenges in perspective against the bigger picture.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“Go into college with an open mind. Very few people know what their life will become when they enter college. Use this time to learn about yourself and your interests; then use this knowledge to do what you love.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Jared!
