Posted by Amy Vaughn on Wed, Jul 15, 2020

The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Sarah Lipscomb, a 2020 recipient of one of the eighteen Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.

Lipscomb, SarahSarah, the daughter of Nancy Lipscomb, is a 2019 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She will be entering her second year of a bachelor’s degree in nursing at The University of Findlay this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“I have enjoyed being more independent and meeting new people, but my favorite aspect of college life is the professors recognizing me solely for my accomplishments and not because they knew me or had watched me grow up. This validation is great!”

Would you say most of your learning comes from inside or outside of the classroom?

“At college, I would say that most of my learning comes from outside the classroom. This includes not only course material and new information, but also life lessons and other new skills that are the result of gaining more responsibility and becoming more independent.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“I have gotten very involved in Campus Ministry at college, and I have enjoyed my community service oriented Bible study especially. It’s been so great to get out and serve in my college community! After excelling in my anatomy and writing classes, I have also become very interested in tutoring at UF’s Academic Support Center.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“The college experience has allowed me to become more independent and responsible, while also developing a “work/school life balance” that I did not have in high school.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“I would tell freshman to get involved and take advantage of the many amazing opportunities that college offers! Also, work hard!”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Sarah!
