Lawson, AlexanderThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Alexander Lawson, a 2021 recipient of one of the two Dr. Laurie Anne Rhodebeck Memorial Scholarship awards.

Alexander, the son of Gary and Lesley Lawson, is a 2020 graduate of Colonel Crawford High School. He will be entering his second year of a bachelor’s degree in wildlife and fisheries resources and soil science at West Virginia University this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“My favorite aspect of college is the opportunity that I have had to meet new people. I have been able to make new friends and meet people who have similar interests as I do. I have also been able to meet professionals in my field.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“My Wildlife and Fisheries Resources Major required me to take a Soil Science course. I ended up enjoying the class so much that I added Soil Science as my minor.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“The college experience has really helped me to learn how to talk to people better and has improved my communication skills. Since I went to a school in a different state, I did not know anyone in West Virginia before I went there in the fall. This has forced me to talk to other people and make new friends.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“I would tell an incoming freshman to get involved in as many clubs, groups, or organizations as they can. Clubs, groups, and organizations are a great way to meet new people and have fun while in school. I was amazed at the variety of student organizations that ranged from Archery to Beekeeping to Club Track.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Alexander!
