Wildenthaler, AndreaThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Andrea Wildenthaler, a 2021 recipient of one of the 19 Doug and Renee Leuthold Scholarship awards, one of the 19 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards, and two Pry Scholarship awards, one for the spring semester and one for the summer semester.

Andrea, the daughter of Ray and Donna Barnett, is a 1990 graduate of Galion High School. She will be entering her fourth year of a bachelor’s degree in customer service leadership, with minors in business administration and communication studies at Ohio University this fall.

What inspired you to choose your intended major?

“Upon reading through the course descriptions and required classes, I knew very quickly that customer service leadership was a perfect fit for me and the work that I do at the Galion Community Center YMCA. I enjoy working with people, communicating with them, and providing them the best service upon entering the YMCA. Ohio University has provided me with a wonderful opportunity to develop my skillset and improve my skills.”

In what way has the college experience changed/improved you or your life?

“The college experience has allowed me to develop relationships with professors and other students in the same major to communicate with and bounce ideas off of. It has increased my self-esteem and allowed me to find the confidence that I was lacking to complete my degree and improve myself in the workforce.”

What advice would you give a non-traditional student who is contemplating taking college courses?

"The advice that I would provide a non-traditional student is not to waste another year wondering if, when, or am I capable of doing this. With the assistance of The Community Foundation for Crawford County and the scholarship opportunities that they provide for non-traditional students, this is the best possible time to take the step. Trust me, you will not regret it.”

Fun Question – What is your favorite holiday and why?

“I would not say that I have a favorite holiday. I do have a favorite season, and that is summer. I love being outside with family and friends enjoying the warm weather. Any opportunity to spend time with loved ones is a holiday.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Andrea!
