The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Caleigh Rister, a 2021 recipient of one of the two John W. Brubaker, Jr. Scholarship awards.
Caleigh, the daughter of Roy and Tonya Rister, is a 2021 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She will be attending California University of Pennsylvania this fall and studying early childhood education.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
“I have been blessed with countless exceptional teachers and numerous experiences in both my school and community that have inspired me to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education. Bucyrus City Schools has provided me with educators who not only push their students to succeed inside the classroom, but in all aspects of their lives. Their encouragement, compassion, and advocacy have inspired me to leave a similar impact on students of my own one day. Additionally, my experiences as a Peer Mentor and Redmen Reader have shown how influential elementary educators are to a growing learner.”
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
“Following graduation from California University of Pennsylvania, I hope to find a school that feels like Bucyrus Elementary; like home. As a teacher, I hope to build a classroom environment of inclusiveness, creativity, and reassurance where my students are pushed to reach their fullest potential. I also intend to receive my Master’s Degree in Education and gifted certification to better both myself and my students. One day, I also hope to write my very own children's book to include in my classroom.”
