Posted by Amy Vaughn on Fri, Jul 09, 2021

Sinclair, KasideeThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Kasidee Sinclair, a 2021 recipient of one of the 19 Doug and Renee Leuthold Scholarship awards, one of the 19 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards, and the Richard E. Stearns Scholarship award.

Kasidee, the daughter of Douglas and Mindy Sinclair, is a 2019 graduate of Galion High School. She will be entering her third year of a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Kent State University this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“My favorite aspect is being independent. I love the responsibility and how it has made me grow as a person. I feel I have become a better person by taking on many of these responsibilities.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“Two of my main new interests are having a healthier lifestyle and working out on a daily basis. These both have helped me in more ways than I can explain. I have a lot of stress with my classes in nursing and the pressure I put on myself. So these are two stress relievers for me.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“It has made me grow up as a person and become more mature. College life is totally different than high school and living at home. You have to take on more responsibilities and make sure to keep a schedule of all your assignments and any work you may need to have done. Being proactive and looking ahead has helped me to keep everything organized and less stressful. Keeping an agenda has also helped me keep all my assignments and studies together. I have also realized asking questions along with asking for help is a positive thing.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“I would tell them to work as hard as you can and to not procrastinate. Have an agenda and make sure to keep everything wrote done. Make sure to also balance school and real life. You still need to have fun and be able to set time for yourself. If not, you are more likely to get burned out and be under a lot of stress. Also, make sure to take courses in the study you want and not just because someone else is taking the course or someone has pushed you into a study you are not happy with. Remember this is the beginning of the rest of your life.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Kasidee!
