Smith, KayleeThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Kaylee Smith, a 2021 recipient of one of the two Dustin T. Stover Scholarship awards.

Kaylee, the daughter of Michael and Leesa Smith, is a 2021 graduate of Wynford High School. She will be attending Marion Technical College this fall and studying physical therapy assisting.

What inspired you to choose your intended major?

“I have known for many years that I wanted to pursue a degree in the medical field due to my passion for helping others, and the stable job and incomes the associated positions provide. Through much research, I came to the conclusion that I would like to pursue a career in Physical Therapy Assisting with a goal to work with sports and orthopedic injuries. Physical Therapy Assisting is going to be a great choice for me as it will allow me to keep my love for basketball around. It will be rewarding emotionally as I can help people recover and get back to doing what they love. Since I have experienced the pain of being injured and sitting out of activities due to having to go through treatments, I knew that my real-life experience has inspired me to want to help others not only recover physically but talk with them to help them realize they can get through the current disappointment of being injured and its related consequences. I am very happy with my intended major choice, and I am so excited to begin a new journey!”

What are your career and life goals after you graduate?

“After I graduate I will be attending Marion Technical College majoring in Physical Therapy Assisting. Upon obtaining that degree my goal is to obtain a position with emphasis in orthopedics. While attending Marion Technical College I hope to also obtain certifications in Athletic Training and Healthcare Management. While enjoying my career, I hope to balance my life with family, friends, and eventually children of my own.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Kaylee!
