2021 Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Mason McKibben

McKibben, MasonThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Mason McKibben, a 2021 recipient of one of the two Kevin A. Binau Scholarship awards and one of the three Susan Campbell Memorial Scholarship awards.

Mason, the son of Bradley and Krista McKibben, is a 2021 graduate of Wynford High School. He will be attending The University of Alabama this fall and studying economics and finance.

What inspired you to choose your intended major?

“Throughout my whole life, I have always loved numbers and mathematics. My mother, Mrs. Krista McKibben, is a local high school mathematics teacher, so I was introduced to math at a young age and have loved the subject ever since I was young enough to understand it. Later, during my junior year in high school, I was able to take both microeconomics and microeconomics through College Credit Plus at North Central State College. This experience was extremely beneficial to me since it showed me that I had a love for economics (especially since it allows me to combine both math and history, which is another passion of mine). These two experiences and the fact that I am intending to be an actuary after graduating from college are the main things that inspired me to choose to study economics and finance at the University of Alabama over the next three or four years.”

What are your career and life goals after you graduate?

“After graduating from high school, I plan on attending the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to study economics, finance, actuarial science, piano, and mathematics while playing the trumpet in the university's marching band, the Million Dollar Band (MDB). Then, after five years, I hope to attain an MBA through Alabama's Manderson Graduate School of Business, and then move on to either pursue a career in actuarial science or law. After that, I hope to create a family of my own and then travel the world with whoever will be a part of that family.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Mason!
