2021 Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Rachel Weyant

Posted by Amy Vaughn on Thu, Jul 15, 2021

Weyant, RachelThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Rachel Weyant, a 2021 recipient of one of the six Merle and Peg Hutson Scholarship awards.

Rachel, the daughter of Matthew and Laura Weyant, is a 2021 graduate of Crestline High School. She will be attending North Central State College this fall and studying nursing.

What inspired you to choose your intended major?

“What inspired me most to go into nursing was the nurses that took care of me when I was a little girl. Growing up I was really sick and having all those nurses help make me get better really made me realize that I wanted to do that too some day when I got older. So ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be just like those nurses and help save lives. Another thing that inspired me was my mom. She’s a nurse as well, and she fights hard to help save lives and take care of the ill. It takes a strong person to be able to go in their job every day and put a smile on their face and get the job done. I feel like every nurse does that, and I too want to be like them.”

What are your career and life goals after you graduate?

“My career goals after I graduate are to be a Nurse Practitioner with a focus on neonates and children. I hope to succeed in this field and be able to help the sick kids get better as they are little and maybe even look up to me. My life goals are to graduate college, get a job at a hospital or doctor’s office and just be happy and live a happy life. I want to start a family some day and teach my kids what the point of life is and to enjoy every bit of it.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Rachel!
