Rager, SamThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Sam Rager, a 2021 recipient of one of the two John W. Brubaker, Jr. Scholarship awards.

Sam, the son of Charles and Lori Rager, is a 2021 graduate of Bucyrus High School. He will be attending Columbia University this fall and studying physics.

What inspired you to choose your intended major?

“I have always excelled in science and math. I find the clear consistency of math pleasant, and science helps me understand and quantify the world. I was motivated to become a physicist because I enjoy performing calculations and would like those calculations to have higher meaning, thus a focus on physics. I was also influenced by The Big Bang Theory. I related to the cast of characters and wanted to do what they did.”

What are your career and life goals after you graduate?

“I want to do something that will have a positive impact on a large quantity of people. I enjoy learning, and the best way to continue learning beyond college is to become a researcher. Research and scientific advancement for the sake of growing knowledge is the noblest cause I can think of. To reach my career goal, I plan to attend graduate school and obtain a doctorate. I may also go into teaching at the college level because no one ever truly understands something until they are able to teach it, and teachers are the most integral part of society, influencing the minds that will continue the work of the human race.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Sam!
