The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Sydney Harris, a 2021 recipient of one of the three Susan Campbell Memorial Scholarship awards.
Sydney, the daughter of Roy and Mary Beth Harris, is a 2021 graduate of Colonel Crawford High School. She will be attending The Ohio State University-Marion campus this fall and studying pharmaceutical sciences.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
“I have grown up in a medical family; my father is a physician, my mother is a nurse, and my brother is a chiropractor. I have known from a very young age that pharmaceuticals are an essential part of patient care, and while I know I can't handle the blood and gore that they can, I wanted to pursue something that I know would allow me to help people feel the best they can. I've always done extremely well in science courses, and after chatting with some family friends about their careers, I decided that it was the perfect choice for me!”
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
“After graduating high school I will be finishing my final summer of showing at the Crawford County Fair. After that, I believe that I will finally feel like I am starting my adult life. I hope to excel in college while also managing my own home life as I will be moving out and into an apartment of my own. I hope that I will be able to obtain my degree at a faster pace due to the 48 college credits I earned through high school and follow my bachelor's with the courses required to obtain my Doctorate in Pharmacy. I think my biggest goal right now is to enjoy my last summer before truly becoming an adult by hanging out with my friends and family as often as possible!”
