Posted by Rachel Jarvis on Mon, Aug 22, 2022

Danielle Horsley The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce  Danielle Horsley, a 2022 recipient of one of the 10 Glen and Alice Beers  Scholarship awards.

Danielle, the daughter of Michael Horsley and Tracy Horsley, is a 2019  graduate of Colonel Crawford High School. She is entering her fourth year of a  Bachelor's Degree in Middle Childhood Education at Otterbein University this  fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

"My favorite aspect of college life is the different experiences that I have gotten to have. I have been able to do many different things while at Otterbein. I have had lots of teaching experiences in many different schools, went to art functions around Columbus, and have interacted with different organizations both at Otterbein and in the local area."

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

"I have discovered how much I enjoy coaching. I was an athlete my entire life, and I have had opportunities to be on the other side and try coaching, and I have found that I really enjoy it. It goes along with my education degree, but I also really enjoy being able to help someone work through a problem and then watch them succeed past that problem."

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

"The college experience has made me more independent. Before college, I was very intimidated by the idea of figuring things out on my own but have found that it is possible. I have learned that I can try new things on my own and find out what works for me."

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

"I would tell incoming freshmen to not be afraid of the change. College is very intimidating at first, and it can be very easy to give up during your first year. It is important to embrace the change and it helps to remember that there are a lot of people that are also in the same position as you are."

What is one item on your bucket list?

"One big item on my bucket list is to visit different countries. This has always been on my bucket list because I feel that there is so much beauty in the world, and I am very curious about how other people live. I would love to be able to travel and meet people from different parts of the world and see what beauty the world has to offer."

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Danielle!
