The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Emma Kirby, a 2022 recipient of one of the two Richard A. Miller Scholarship awards and one of the two Merle and Peg Hutson Scholarship awards.
Emma, the daughter of Jason and Misti Kirby, is a 2022 graduate of Crestline High School. She will be attending Marietta College this fall and studying Psychology.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
"To be quite honest, I'm really not sure what inspired me to choose psychology. Really just over the last couple of years, I became interested in it. One thing that I believe made me become interested in it might have been that I know what it's like to feel like you don't have someone to talk to. Having experienced that, and knowing what that feels like, I don't want others to feel that way. I want to be able to help be an outlet for others, so they don't have to experience or go through something like that."
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
"These two things seem really far away to think about right now, even though in reality I know these next years are going to fly by. As for my career goals, after I graduate, I hope to begin working as a counselor or therapist. I think right now I'm more leaning towards becoming a therapist, but I'm not for sure. As for my life goals, I really don't know where I'll be. For me, I would love to come back and be closer to home, but I think I will try to end up somewhere that will benefit my career the most."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Emma!
