Kasidee Sinclair The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce  Kasidee Sinclair, a 2022 recipient of one of the seven Arlene H. Smith  Scholarship Fund awards.

Kasidee, the daughter of Doug and Mindy Sinclair, is a 2019 graduate of Galion  High School. She will be entering her second year of a bachelor's degree in  Nursing at Kent State University this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

"I would have to say my favorite aspect of life would have to be the independence. I say this because I like learning and providing for myself. It makes me feel responsible and also allows me to grow as an individual. This also leads me to being able to be the best nurse I can be, because without those things, I will not be pushed to my best potential."

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

"Some new interests I have discovered while at college is working out and the health and benefits that come with it. Not only is it good for your body, but it is a wonderful stress reliever that helps me accomplish what I need to while feeling great. Along with that, it gives me energy and provides me with a better mental state. On top of that, it has led me to be more interested in not only the course and major of nutrition, but also nutrition when it comes to providing my body with the right nutrients I need to give my body the energy it needs to succeed in not only school, but in life."

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?"

"The college experience has changed and improved me in multiple ways, but the biggest change for me was independence and priorities. While I am at home, my mom is the typical mom that likes to cook and do laundry for you. With that being said, I did not do a lot when I was at home, so when I moved into my apartment, I had to learn to provide for myself, and I actually like it. Now for priorities, I have figured out what the most important ones are and what comes after. For example, especially with being a nursing student, I have to make sure I am on top of my game and don't slack off. School comes first also, because if it doesn't, I will not get to where I want to be."

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?\

"I would give a college freshman the advice to not be scared and to let it take its course. I feel like as a freshman, we are all expecting certain things. Of course college is important, but it's also important to have fun and enjoy your life. Make sure you make time for yourself, because if not, you will completely drain yourself. If your mental state is not well, you will not do well. Take care of yourself."

What is one item on your bucket list?

"One item on my bucket list is to become a travel CRNA. I want to sign contracts in Hawaii. or even other states in the U.S., so that I can not only do the job I love, but also travel while doing so. It sounds so cool to me, and I feel like I could experience so much when doing so."

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Kasidee!
