Steven Long The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Steven  Long, a 2022 recipient of one of the 10 Glen and Alice Beers Scholarship awards.

Steven, the son of Michael Long and Andrea Long, is a 2020 graduate of  Buckeye Central High School. He will be entering his third year of a Bachelor's  Degree in Chemistry at Miami University Oxford this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

"My favorite aspect of college life is getting to learn from so many people from different walks of life."

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

"While in school, I have found interest in organic synthesis and pharmaceuticals."

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

"I believe college has made me much more durable mentally. Stress is much more common in college than high school, and learning to deal with it is mandatory."

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

"To an incoming freshman, I would say it is important to talk to older students in your department and ask them who the good academic advisors are. In my experience, the advisors given to me were unhelpful, and knowing who to contact for help is important."

What is one item on your bucket list?

"One item on my bucket list is to hold in my hand a chemical that has been unknown to humanity previously. The reason for this is because chemistry is cool."

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Steven!
