Tara Hensley

The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Tara  Hensley, a 2022 recipient of one of the two Dr. Joseph and Susan Shadeed  Scholarship awards.

Tara, the daughter of Terry and Tami Hensley, is a 2014 graduate of Crestline  High School. She will be entering her second year of an Associate Degree in  Registered Nursing at North Central State College this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“The diversity of all of my classmates is by far my favorite part of college. College allows for anyone at any age to follow their dreams and get an education. That being said, there are students in all different aspects of life. Everyone is facing different challenges and has different experiences that we all can learn from, while bonding over the content we are learning in class.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“I always knew that I wanted to go into the medical field. However, I didn't know what specialty I wanted to work in. My different clinical experiences allowed me to gain knowledge in each specialty and find my passion.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“The college experience has put me in positions to improve my confidence, communication, and self-esteem. Even though the college experience is challenging, it allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone and make connections with classmates, professors, and connections with future employers.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“My advice to incoming freshman would be to start working in the field you are seeking an education in while you are in school. This will allow you to build connections and network with your potential managers, providers, and coworkers while also helping you to gain experience and familiarize yourself with your future work environment.”

What is one item on your bucket list?

“One of the things that has been on my bucket list for the longest time is to own a llama. Even though I'm not quite sure on the why, I have just always wanted one.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Tara!
