Posted by Rachel Jarvis on Fri, Jul 22, 2022

Tyler Bishop The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Tyler  Bishop, a 2022 recipient of one of the 19 Doug and Renee Leuthold Scholarship  awards, one of the 10 Glen and Alice Beers Scholarship awards, and one of the  19 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.

Tyler, the son of Scott Bishop and Erica Halm, is a 2020 graduate of Bucyrus  High School. He will be entering his third year of a Bachelor's Degree in  Mechanical Engineering at University of Toledo this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

“My favorite aspect of college life is the people. I have met several new students, professors, advisors, and co-workers in the two years I’ve been at college. May of them have become good friends of mine.”

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

“I have become very interested in nuclear energy. I had the opportunity to spend this past spring semester as an intern at a nuclear power plant, and I enjoyed the work I conducted as well as the co-workers that taught me.”

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

“My time in college has given me real-world experiences in a professional environment, allowing me to grow as a person and as an engineer.”

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

“To the incoming freshman class, I would suggest getting involved. You never know what activities or groups you’ll enjoy, or who you’ll meet unless you put yourself out there. It could make a significant difference in your college experience as a whole.”

What is one item on your bucket list?

“Because the engineering program at Toledo does not offer many breaks, I have not been able to travel over the past year. I hope to take a vacation or two before graduating if possible.”

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Tyler!
