The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce the 2023 Samuel Neff Fellowship for International Study Scholarship recipient, Jessie Furner!
Jessie has also been awarded other Foundation scholarships: the Pry Scholarship award and one of the 19 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.
Jessie is currently completing a study abroad program in New Zealand!
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
"I decided to follow a path I knew I could excel in."
What are your career goals after you graduate?
"Either 1) start a nonprofit, 2) accept an offer I cannot refuse, 3) become a grad student while continuing to work as a realtor, wedding officiant, and substitute teacher, or 4) accept a local position that fuels my soul as well as my bank account."
Please describe the international experience you will be taking:
"I will be living and 'working' fulltime in Wellington, NZ from September 1st - November 8th, 2023. As a Bobcat, I have access to the office of Global Opportunity and the great resources it provides (amazing staff). There are a myriad of partnerships and opportunities for abroad study through them. I was encouraged to apply for the Benjamin Gilman Scholarship, which is only available to Pell Grant eligible students. I will be staying in hostels with an occasional Airbnb that offers laundry amenities! I chose NZ because it's wild, beautiful, ecologically diverse, English speaking, notoriously friendly, and far, far away."
