Posted by Rachel Jarvis on Thu, Sep 21, 2023

Autumn Schafer  The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce  Autumn Schafer, a 2023 recipient of one of the 19 Doug and Renee Leuthold  Scholarship awards.

Autumn, the daughter of Brad Schafer and Carla Schafer, is a 2022 graduate of  Wynford High School. She is in her second year of a Bachelor's Degree in  Primary Education at The Ohio State University - Marion Campus.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

"So far, my favorite aspect of college life is getting to go into different schools around Marion for field experience. I love getting to be able to see what the teacher life looks like in a classroom setting."

What new interest or courses of study have you discovered at college?

"So far, I have taken an interest in history classes. I took a women's history class last year, and I absolutely loved going through the Marion Women's Club archives and getting to know more about it. Then, over the summer, I did a type of internship for the same professor and did some interviewing and digging on early literacy in Marion."

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

"I think the biggest thing that college has changed about me is learning to be more organized with balancing coursework and home life."

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

"Advice that I would give to an incoming college freshman is don't come in thinking that it's going to be easy or just like high school. It is most definitely not the same, and there are some parts that are good and parts that are bad, but always keep your end goal in mind."

What is one item on your bucket list?

"I honestly haven't thought about my bucket list much, but if I had to choose one thing, it would be to go to L.A. I chose this because my elementary best friend moved there several years ago, and she hasn't been home in a while; however, when she was, she told me she wanted me to come visit."

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Autumn!
