2023 Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Emma Steiger

Posted by Rachel Jarvis on Thu, Aug 24, 2023

Emma Steiger  The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Emma  Steiger, a 2023 recipient of the Daryl E. Stucky Memorial Scholarship, one of  the two Kevin A. Binau Scholarship awards, and the Larry Schiefer Memorial  Scholarship award.

Emma, the daughter of Greg Mitchell Steiger and Sue Jeanette Steiger, is a  2023 graduate of Wynford High School. She will be attending Otterbein  University this fall and will be studying Pre-Occupational Therapy.

What inspired you to choose your intended major?

"I chose my intended major, occupational therapy, because it is a way for me to help others and those of all ages. I have always wanted a job for me to help others and those of all ages. I have always wanted a job where I feel fulfilled by the help I give. It's hard imaging how difficult life would be without being able to do simple everyday tasks, which is what many patients deal with. Being able to provide help to people to be able to do simple tasks is something I find valuable. Everyone should have the opportunity to improve their movements and abilities to perform tasks. Seeing the progress from day one of therapy until a patient is released is something I can't wait to experience and help with."

What are your career and life goals after you graduate?

"My career goals are to get an undergraduate and graduate degree in Occupational Therapy at Otterbein University. Once these goals are obtained, I would like to be able to work in both a school and hospital setting, helping both younger and older people. I am also interested in becoming a traveling OT to see other places while helping others."

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Emma!
