2023 Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Sarah Rasnake

Posted by Rachel Jarvis on Wed, Jun 14, 2023

Sarah Rasnake  The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Sarah  Rasnake, a 2023 recipient of one of the six Arlene H. Smith Scholarship awards,  the Dorothy Sherer Flohr Scholarship award, and one of the two Dr. Joseph and  Susan Shadeed Scholarship awards.

Sarah, the daughter of Dennis Metzger and Karen Sisson, is a 1996 graduate of  Wynford High School. She will be entering her first year of an Associate's degree  in Registered Nursing at North Central State College this fall.

What is your favorite aspect of college life?

"I think that I appreciate the fact that I don't necessarily have to go to college. I have chosen to better myself, and this is just a stepping stone to do that. No one is forcing me to continue my education, so it is something that I am voluntarily doing for myself."

In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?

"Just the fact that I have been accepted into the Nursing Program has improved my self-esteem. Being a bit on the older side for college, I sometimes feel that I may be a little out of my league in starting so late in life. I am excited to get started in class so that I begin working in the nursing field."

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

"I would tell incoming college freshmen to stick with it. The college life may seem a bit overwhelming with other things going on in life, but it is super important to stick with it and not quit when it seems like you just can't do it anymore. You may not get this chance again once real life starts. Just get it done and over with while life is still a little easier."

What is one item on your bucket list?

"One item on my bucket list is to go abroad and help on a nursing mission trip. I believe that having that experience would make me appreciate the things that we take for granted every day. The feeling of accomplishment when helping so many people, while doing what I love, would have to be very humbling."

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Sarah!
