The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Emilee Brown, a 2024 recipient of one of the 19 Doug and Renee Leuthold Scholarship awards.
Emilee, the daughter of Steve Brown and Stacee Gimlich, is a 2022 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. She is in her third year of a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education at University of Toledo.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"My favorite aspect of college life is definitely my art classes. It's a lot of fun to be able to create things while learning. I also really enjoy being involved in campus. I joined a sorority my sophomore year of college, and I'm so excited to further my position in it."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"Some new interests I have discovered in college would be learning about education. I always thought learning about learning would be boring and repetitive, but I actually have really enjoyed all the education classes I've taken so far!"
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
"One major way my college experience has changed me would be how different I am from when I first started college. I feel I've really changed and grown from my experiences, and I've learned a lot about myself. I've made a lot of new friends in college this past year just by pushing any anxieties I have aside and doing my best to be the best version of myself."
What advice would you give an incoming freshman?
"Some advice I would give incoming college freshmen is to not be afraid to put yourself out there, and don't listen to any self doubt. I believe if I would have ignored my anxiety and insecurities, I would have made a lot of friends a lot sooner and would've had the courage to do the things I love doing now in school. Don't waste your college years going home every weekend or staying in every weekend. I'm not saying you should go out every weekend and party, but definitely set some time to meet people and learn about yourself in a different environment."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"One item on my bucket list is to go on a vacation myself or with friends. Every vacation I've experience has been with my family, and while I do truly love that, I am curious to experience things and places on my own or with a close group of friends."
