The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Hailey Dzugan, a 2024 recipient of one of the six Arlene H. Smith Scholarship awards.
Hailey, the daughter of Martin Dzugan and Tracy Dzugan, is a 2011 graduate of Crestline High School. She is in her first year of an Associate's Degree in Registered Nursing at North Central State College.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"My favorite aspect of college life is that a lot of classes can be done online. As a wife and mother of two, it makes it much easier to have more than one class per semester. Being able to choose when and where you can take classes makes being able to go back to college practical."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"Going into registered nursing, I knew that I would be learning about the human body. I didn't realize how fascinated I would be by it though. Learning that every single molecule has its very own specific job and they all work together to get the job done is mind blowing."
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
"The college experience has improved my time management skills. Time management doesn't just apply to school though. It applies to life and is a great skill to have!"
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"The advice I would give to an incoming freshman would be to not get discouraged if it doesn't work out the first time. It is never too late to finish a degree or take a class over if you fail the first go around. Prioritize your classes and take the time to sit down and study. Don't wait until the night before to finish an assignment or project."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"One item on my bucket list is to visit Alaska. I have always been fond of snow-covered mountains and the stillness of being in the middle of nowhere with mother nature. Life is too short. We need to make sure we do at least one thing on our bucket lists because we are never promised tomorrow."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Hailey!
