2024 Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Jeremiah Woodmansee

Posted by Rachel Jarvis on Fri, Sep 13, 2024

Jeremiah WoodmanseeThe Community Foundation is pleased to introduce Jeremiah Woodmansee, a 2024 recipient of one of the two fall semester Pry Scholarship awards.

Jeremiah is a 1997 graduate of Galion High School. He is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management and Organizational Leadership at Southern New Hampshire University.

What inspired you to choose your intended major?

"What has inspired me to choose my major is my work with the Galion YMCA as well as my involvement with Galion Community Theatre. I have spent my entire life in Galion and want to be able to contribute to my local community now and in the future."

In what way has the college experience changed/improved you or your life?

"My experience as a non-traditional student has given me an opportunity for personal growth. Academically, it equipped me with knowledge, critical thinking abilities, and problem-solving skills to succeed. Socially, I have built connections that I hope lead to lifelong friendships and professional networks. Ultimately, I believe my college experience will help prepare me for better career opportunities and higher earning potential."

What advice would you give a non-traditional student who is contemplating taking college courses?

"My advice to any non-traditional student considering college courses would be: define your goals clearly, research programs that cater to non-traditional students, plan your finances, manage your time effectively, build a support network, stay motivated, and prioritize self-care. Embrace your unique perspective as it can enrich classroom discussions and enhance your learning journey."

If you could go back in time, but couldn't change anything, what time would you go to?

"My feeling on this question is that if I can't go back and change anything, I would rather focus on the future. Instead of going to a previous time in my life to witness my decisions (and mistakes) again, I would like to use the lessons I've learned to achieve the life I want for myself in the future. Using my past experiences to create the best life I can to move forward isn't something I need to go back in time to do. Instead of dwelling on the past, I would rather dream and plan for the future."

What's something you love that everyone you know hates?

"Unlike most people in my demographic (white, middle-aged male), I enjoy Hallmark Christmas movies. When they begin to run in November, I turn the channel to Hallmark, and when I'm home, it stays there. I tune in on Saturday and Sunday evenings especially because that is when they show their new movies for the season. I enjoy them because they are light-hearted, predictable, and easy to watch while I complete other tasks."

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Jeremiah!
