The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Jordyn Alspach, a 2024 recipient of one of the six Arlene H. Smith Scholarship awards.
Jordyn, the daughter of Mike Alspach and Peggy Thornborough, is a 2023 graduate of Wynford High School. She is in her second year of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing at University of Akron.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"My favorite aspect of college life is getting the opportunity to live on my own, and I enjoy the responsibilities that come with it. I love to attend the sporting events as well as competing in intramural sports."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"A new interest of study I have discovered at college is psychology. I have enjoyed taking courses that focus on this subject so much that I have decided to minor in psychology."
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
"I believe that college has helped me grow into a more independent individual. I have enjoyed experiencing this new chapter of my life on my own and believe that I will continue to grow."
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"The advice I would give to an incoming college freshman is to not be afraid to talk to new people because everyone is in the same position you are. I would also say to always participate in new things and opportunities."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"One item on my bucket list is to visit Sicily, Italy. My great grandmother is from Sicily, and I think it would be a beautiful place to travel to."
