The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Malia Ervin, a 2024 recipient of one of the three Kiwanis Kahle-Wenner Scholarship awards, the Larry Schiefer Memorial Scholarship award, and one of the 19 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.
Malia, the daughter of Anthony Ervin and Jamie Ervin, is a 2024 graduate of Wynford High School. She will be attending Heidelberg University this fall and studying Psychology.
What inspired you to choose your intended major?
"My reasons for becoming a clinical psychologist are deeply rooted in my own experiences. It is true that human psychology has always fascinated me, but I connect to this field of study on a more personal level. Various members of my family live with a myriad of different mental disorders, behavioral problems, as well as addictions. It is something that I have tried to understand from a very age and have always wondered what I could do to help people who are being inhibited by their mental illnesses or other stressful circumstances. As a clinical psychologist, I would be able to help people through these exact issues, providing them with a sense of security and belonging through counseling and treatment."
What are your career and life goals after you graduate?
"After graduating from a four-year college, I plan on pursuing further education and obtaining my Master's degree in clinical psychology. Ten years from now, I hope to be a part of a counseling center that helps people from all kinds of different backgrounds. I wish to help as many people as possible and will dedicate my life to understanding the ins and outs of human psychology, so that I can properly counsel and treat my patients in the future."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Malia!
