The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Rosalyn Johnson, a 2024 recipient of one of the 20 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.
Rosalyn, the daughter of Monica Johnson, is a 2022 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She is in her third year of a Bachelor's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"My favorite aspect of college life is the close friendships I have been able to make and maintain the past two years of school. I have made new friends, and those relationships have only gotten stronger over time. I also enjoy the close-knit atmosphere of being on a small campus and the small class sizes. I feel like I am more connected to my peers and professors because of this."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"I always knew I wanted to work with kids, but I have discovered my passion for it through speech-language pathology courses. Through my classes and my required observation hours, I have come to a decision to pursue becoming a pediatric SLP in a hospital or clinical setting."
In what ways has the college experience changed/improved you?
"I have become more confident and extroverted since experiencing college. I have formed new friendships easily, and I have become better at expressing myself and my feelings to others."
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"Don't forget to give yourself a break. Yes, college is hard and grades are important, but you shouldn't be drowning in schoolwork. Make time for friends and down time because that is necessary for you to recharge and reset so you can do your best academically."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"I would love to take a trip to Europe someday. I love traveling, and I would love to experience a different culture. There are so many beautiful countries I want to visit, and I could learn so much from a trip there."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Rosalyn!
