The Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Grace Everett, a 2025 recipient of one of the 20 Doug and Renee Leuthold Scholarship awards.
Grace, the daughter of Marion Allen and James Everett, is a 2024 graduate of Wynford High School. She is in her fourth year of a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Communications at The Ohio State University.
What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?
"My favorite part of college is the personalization that comes with the class selections and the courses that are available. At my school, I am able to select classes that I want to take and have my interests in mind as long as I am meeting each requirement necessary for my degree. Plus, there are multiple times where each course is offered during the day, meaning that I also get to decide what times I wish to take each course."
What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?
"I am required to take a language requirement, so I decided to branch out and take Korean. Korean is definitely a challenging language to learn, but it is one of my favorite classes that I have taken and continue to take. In the autumn semester, I am going to be entering the third semester of Korean, which I am looking forward to."
In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?
"At my school, there are students and faculty from all across the country and the world. There is much more diversity compacted into one campus, opening up different ideas and viewpoints. Attending college has allowed me to experience different cultures, ideas, and experiences that I would not have experienced if I never attended. The diversity has definitely changed some of my viewpoints and allowed me to be more openminded."
What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?
"My advice for incoming college freshmen would be to find the balance between social life and academics. College allows you to be free and have social connections that you would not have had if you did not attend. However, there needs to be the balance of friendships and academics. Finding the balance early on will allow you to feel better academically, mentally, and socially."
What is one item on your bucket list and why?
"I want to travel to another country with a preference towards South Korea. I want to see another country that I would not have the opportunity to visit again to experience a different culture. I am already learning Korean, so South Korea would be the easiest for me to navigate considering I can understand parts of the language."
Congratulations and good luck in the future, Grace!
