Karmyn BlizzardThe Community Foundation for Crawford County is pleased to introduce Karmyn Blizzard, a 2025 recipient of one of the nine Glen and Alice Beers Scholarship awards and one of the 20 Margaret and Donald Wenner, MD Scholarship awards.

Karmyn, the daughter of Lisa Ann Blizzard and Stephen Arthur Blizzard, is a 2022 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She is in her first year of a Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy at Bowling Green State University.

What is your favorite aspect of college life and why?

"I am a lifelong learner. The more I can learn about fields that I am interested in, the better. Throughout my undergraduate degree, my favorite part was experimenting with different studying strategies and learning what worked best for me. I feel that that prepared me to begin my graduate degree."

What new interests or courses of study have you discovered at college?

"I have always known that I wanted to be a physical therapist, but after studying for three years and getting my Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology, I gained a passion for overall well-being. Too often, physicians overlook the entire well-being of a person and immediately look to resolve their physical ailment. That is a problem that myself and the PT profession as a whole are working to solve."

In what way has the college experience changed/improved you?

"College has given me a better understanding of myself- learning styles, how I handle stress, how I react to an unexpected grade, and so on. From this, I'm slowly learning to step back and evaluate my being before reacting to a situation."

What advice would you give an incoming college freshman?

"1. Try all studying methods that you can! The Pomodoro method has been working for me, so I recommend that one. 2. Complete your coursework during the week. It's hard to complete tasks in full effort over the weekend when your mind is other places. 3. Don't purchase textbooks until after the first class! Sometimes they are offered elsewhere for cheaper. I would have saved a lot of money by doing this."

What is one item on your bucket list and why?

"I would love to open and operate a micro-bakery through my house at some point in my life. I love to bake! It's a great stress reliever for me, and it's a great go-to gift for my loved ones. There's little to nothing a warm chocolate chip cookie can't fix."

Congratulations and good luck in the future, Karmyn!
